Leeds Community Stars 2012

The winners of the inaugural Leeds Community Stars Awards have been announced after a ceremony at the Leeds Town Hall on 3 July.

The ceremony, hosted by BBC Look North presenter, Harry Gration, saw 350 residents and representatives from social housing organisations across Leeds come together to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups from the area.

The awards were made up of eight categories and were sponsored by ASDA, British Gas, Leeds Tenant Federation, Mears, and Morrison.

The winners are:

• Resident of the Year - John Boyd
• Young Resident of the Year - Rachel Lyons
• Resident Group of the Year - Rycroft High Rise group
• Best Community Initiative - Swarcliffe Good Neighbours Scheme
• Most Innovative Project – SLATE
• (Highly Commended – Firefly Project)
• Best Green Initiative - Holt Park Recycling Project and Middleton Community Group (radiator reflectors)
• People’s Choice Award – Gipton Together
• Special Recognition Award – Caroline Westerman
